DataPortability was founded in November of 2007 to promote the idea that individuals should have control over their data by determing who can use it and how it can be used. This includes access to data that is under the control of another entity. Our philosophy is focused on these primary concepts: You should be able to decide what you do with your data and how it gets used by others; As users, our identity, photos, videos and other forms of personal data should be discoverable by, and shared between our chosen (and trusted) tools or vendors. We are an open organization that puts emphasis on participation above all else - so come and get involved.
The DataPortability Project needs a new logo (read how and why here). We want the community to make the final decision! We had over 400 submissions and narrowed them down to this shortlist with the help of a panel of judges. Now it's your turn; Vote for the logo you think best represents the project and would be most distinctive and functional on websites, t-shirts and stickers everywhere!
We would like to thank our generous sponsors for their support - without them, this contest would never have been possible. Here's what we are giving away to the winner:
We would also like to extend a very grateful thank you to our logistical sponsors, without whom, we would never have been able to hold a public vote. Thank you to Webreakstuff for building this excellent voting application, to TechCrunch for their logistical and networking support (both social and digital), to MediaTemple for hosting, and to ConceptShare for their donation of an online collaboration space.
